MEASURING THE DRAMA, MARKING THE MELODRAMA

Episode 76: Measuring the Drama, Marking the Melodrama

(Celebrating Father's Day at the Rock of Liberty Ranch, around the campfire after a long day of preparing for the building blitz)

Timeus: All right, speaking of our fathers, who wrote the following statement on February 12, 1779?:

A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.

(Silence)

Olam:  A subdued people without virtue have no memory of such a father, Timeus. Sorry.

Link:  I'm thinking.

Curtis:  I'm hungry. Way too hungry to think.

(howl in the distance)

Curtis:  What was that? D'jere hear that?

Link:  Don't worry. Four-legged external. Not as hungry as you, that little coyote. The internal invaders are far more likely to eat you.

Olam:  Whole.

Lily:  Samuel Adams, if you please.

Curtis:  Wha?

Timeus:  Corrrrect! Samuel Adams said that...(to Curtis) and mind your manners with the ladies.

Olam:  Our fathers understood the principles of natural law and cultural ideals, ethics, customs and the manners to maintain them.

President Obama gave a good talk today to our nation's fathers and their children.  This could be his best legacy to the black community of broken families.

Lady Liberty:  And to a nation that increasingly devalues traditional marriage.  Mrs. Obama , for her part, wants to encourage public service. She kicked off United We Serve.

Lily:  Sometimes the Obamas seem as though they have just crossed the border into the U.S. themselves and are filled with passion about what Americans should be doing. But Americans have always volunteered their time and money to help their fellow human beings. Why the mandate from government?

Timeus: Who said the following?:

We are a nation that has a government — not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.

Curtis:  Ah!  Recent history class--and a great tutor!--serve my memory on that. Ronald Reagan, inaugural address, Jan. 20, 1981 --the most principled president of the 20th century who the now-moderately-sane and increasingly unprincipled Republicrats would like to forget.

Link: He also said,

When people tell me I became president on January 20, 1981, I feel I have to correct them. You don't become president of the United States. You are given temporary custody of an institution called the presidency, which belongs to our people.

Lady Liberty:  With all their utopian travels and teachings, the Obamas have gotten quite disoriented, perhaps through naivete or personal ambition that will not serve them in the long run. And serve.gov gets it backwards. Gov serves. The people.

Lily:  Our President and first lady, and their adorable family, are the recipients of a great political foundation and tremendous sacrifice by those who came before them to keep our culture of self-governing alive. So when the President, his administration and Democrat party talk of "a new foundation", they betray a willful ignorance of history and ingratitude unbecoming their true positions.

The challenge has been put to them: Will they be honorable and prudent enough to lead life's drama, or will they be followers of an easier melodrama?

(A week later. The building blitz on the first five houses was delayed because of severe thunderstorms and crew scheduling. The Keepers are getting antsy with cabin fever.)

Olam:  Lily, now here's an immigrant orientation that may recalibrate the Obamas.

Timeus:  Maharushi mentioned that today, the American Thinker piece.

Lily:  I read that piece. Quite a recalibrater, all right. One wonders if Mr. Obama is aware of the cunning forces behind him. Is he with our drama or their melodrama?

As for Africa, she is now cozying up to China as if this will be different from the old colonial master or the tyrannical, tribal war lord, weilding his machete for the rule of man rather than our rule of law. How will that play out, particularly as we witness so many Americans taking the same road to serfdom that the rest of the world refuses to exit?

Curtis:  (from his bunk and on his cell to Raina at Gymnaces) So did you hear?

Raina:  Yeah...Carbongate

Curtis:  (Yelling) Lily!  Carbongate?  Drama or melodrama?

Curtis:  The green shirts of global warming??!! Haven't these people stepped outside and put their fingers to the wind lately?

Lily:  Some of 'em did. But the green drama--conserving natural law, life and liberty, not to be confused with the green shirts and their progressive tyranny--met up with the red melodrama.

So don't be fooled by flying colors or Humpty Dumpty's sophomoric branding. Know the drama from the melodrama, and you'll pass through this hard knock life with your character in good standing.
